Which factors shape future events?

Constant change and progress shape our society. As a mirror of society business events adapt flexibly to these circumstances. The Covid-19 pandemic in particular has brought additional momentum to transformation processes that had already begun. Therefore, the latest whitepaper published by the Future Meeting Space innovation network revolves around one central thesis: the ecosystem of events will change to a great extent and for the long term. Based on ten fields of action, the research identifies challenges and opportunities arising from a variety of influencing factors to work out usage scenarios for physical, hybrid and virtual meeting spaces.

The innovation network "Future Meeting Space" systematically anticipates relevant developments in the event industry in order to derive indications for future requirements of an organizational, technological and spatial nature. Together with a wide range of research partners, the innovation network not only identifies developments and opportunities, but also provides clear, practice-oriented recommendations for action. In this way, it aims to make a significant contribution to the further development of business events.

The Initiators

The innovation network "Future Meeting Space" was launched in 2015 by the GCB German Convention Bureau e.V. in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO.

The GCB German Convention Bureau e.V. represents and markets Germany nationally and internationally as a destination for meetings, conventions, events and incentives.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO supports companies and institutions in implementing new business models and efficient processes in order to work more successfully. With its extensive knowledge of organizational structures and technologies, Fraunhofer IAO is able to put research into practice. The institute is involved in international networks in which the most important topics for the future of Germany as a business location are investigated and shaped. The aim of Fraunhofer IAO is to systematically optimize the interaction paths of people, organizations and technologies.
