The negotiations for the Peace of Westphalia treaty lasted 1,400 days – this was the start of Osnabrück's long career as a conference destination. Today, it is both easy to get to and easy to get around and offers a free, creative congress service.
The historical Friedenssaal in the town hall (European heritage label) will forever be remembered as the venue of this first international congress which was attended by all the great European powers. History is brought to life in the narrow, cobbled lanes of the old quarter of Osnabrück, making it a deserving member of the Historic Highlights of Germany. The Erich Maria Remarque Peace Centre and the Felix Nussbaum House (designed by award-winning architect Daniel Libeskind) pay homage to the town's most famous sons. A compact town that is best explored on foot, Osnabrück is also an eco-friendly congress location. In conjunction with the region's most important service providers, the conference and convention bureau founded the 'Green meetings in Osnabrück' initiative. Universities, institutions such as the German Foundation for the Environment (DBU) and the German Foundation for Peace Research (DSF), and the dynamic economy all provide stimulus for trade conventions. The main station (served by ICE/IC trains), Münster/Osnabrück international airport and three motorways make travelling to the town very straightforward. The choice of conference venues includes OsnabrückHalle, modern conference hotels and a number of unusual locations such as museums, an abbey, the planetarium and Osnabrück zoo. Your main contact is the conference and convention bureau whose staff offer an individual and creative event service free of charge.
Expertise
The third largest city in Lower Saxony focuses on medicine + healthcare, transport + logistics and technology + innovation. The healthcare industry is the most important employer in the region but suppliers to the automobile industry are also a key sector. The food industry and agricultural technology provide additional significant players.
