The Future of Stuttgart Meetings

Secure & Sustainable Solutions for Planners

2020 was set to be a record year for business events in Stuttgart. As we now know, reality is looking vastly different though. With an ongoing global pandemic that has caused the world to “pause” in the first half of 2020, the business events sector had to adapt to a number of new requirements and needs.

Nonetheless, beginning this fall, in September 2020, conventions and trade shows with more than 500 guests are allowed to take place again in Stuttgart – under the condition of following hygiene and safety protocols, of course. The capital of southwest Germany is home to the headquarters of both Mercedes-Benz and Porsche and has made investments into the future by improving its meetings infrastructure and continuing its commitment to sustainability.

The second largest event space in Stuttgart, Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Liederhalle, is conveniently located in the city center and provides direct access to the Maritim Hotel Stuttgart. After an extensive technological update and refurbishment, the location will reopen for business come October. Infrastructure for hybrid events and their sustainable meetings concept – including the green scorecard for planners – complement their future oriented services.

Messe Stuttgart and its ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart, southwest Germany’s largest event venue with 120,000 square meters (1,076,390 square feet) of space, is not only a certified carbon neutral trade fair and congress location. By setting a new standard with its Green Statement, it has also been one of Germany’s green leaders since 2010. Furthermore, their Safe Expo safety protocol addresses the new COVID-19 associated requirements. Excellent infrastructure for hybrid meetings as well as a live broadcast studio complement their service portfolio.

Stuttgart offers certified “green” hotel rooms right at Messe Stuttgart’s doorsteps. The Mövenpick Hotel Stuttgart Airport is Green Globe certified and the company has opened another, newly built hotel: Mövenpick Hotel Messe & Congress is located right next to the ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart. Safety is guaranteed by their AllSafe Label, which was certified by SGS Institut Fresenius. Other meeting hotels with strong sustainable management schemes are Parkhotel Stuttgart Messe Airport and Waldhotel Stuttgart.

The international Stuttgart Airport is only a five minute walk away from Messe Stuttgart. By 2050, Stuttgart Airport’s operations are set to be entirely carbon neutral. In order to accomplish this goal, the airport follows a strong environmental policy as part of the fairport code. Its environmental management system is being audited according to the Eco Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). Passenger safety is aided by Artificial Intelligence powered 3D sensors which support the management of social distancing within the airport building. In 2019, the airport connected Stuttgart to more than 120 destinations around the world and handled a record 12.7 million passengers.

With Germany’s reliable health care system, its strong crisis management, and its strict safety protocols and measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, event organizers and delegates can feel confident and at ease when visiting Stuttgart. The Stuttgart Convention Bureau team is happy to provide advice and assistance for planning future (hybrid) business events in Stuttgart.
