Hamburg presents itself in Sweden as part of the “Hamburg on Tour” event series

Once a year, the staff of the Hamburg Convention Bureau pack a gigantic suitcase and go on a journey to present Hamburg and various partner institutions to an international audience as part of the creative “Hamburg on Tour” event series. Following successful stop-overs in Vienna (2014) and Copenhagen (2015), this year’s event will be the third one to be held as part of this series: on 9 and 10 September, this live communication format will be presented in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Visitors and participants can expect a broad range of extraordinary stagings and free interactive projects in Gothenburg. And a sure component of the “Hamburg on Tour” suitcase is the Hamburg Metropolitan Region’s colourful and cultural diversity.

In Gothenburg, a city that is home to 600,000 residents, the main event location will be the Gustav Adolfs Torg – the town square in the very heart of the city. Over a period of two days, this square will be transformed into the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. And of course the River Elbe will also be part of the scenery – as a 3D perspective drawing. Right and left of the Elbe, guests will be invited to lounge in the “Hamburg Metropolitan Region chill-out area”. On various dedicated themed islands, visitors will be able to relax under apple trees from the Altes Land region, bathe their feet in the North and Baltic Seas, and enjoy culinary specialties from Northern Germany.

In keeping with the slogan “Get the Hamburg feeling”, visitors will be able to experience the Hanseatic City of Hamburg up close and absorb the beat of the city through various performances by up-and-coming musicians and artists from Hamburg. What is more, Hamburg's new landmark, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, will be inviting Gothenburg’s locals to gain visual and musical insights into the Elbphilharmonie well in advance of the official opening in January 2017.

As well as providing plenty of information, the event will also include various interactive projects and opportunities to participate. There will be free, authentic guided tours around the simulated Reeperbahn entertainment district as well as Hamburg-themed boat trips with a duration of approx. 30 minutes, which will depart from a jetty on the adjacent harbour canal.

In addition to the event village on the Gustav Adolfs Torg, there will also be decentralised programme highlights. These will include e.g. a public screening on Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, the north German film board, and, in the evening hours, guided walks through the city as part of the “A WALL IS A SCREEN” short film project.

Moreover, the “Hamburg on Tour” programme will include a B2B event, which will be hosted on the evening of 8 September. The Hamburg Convention Bureau will be inviting experts from the realms of politics, culture, media, business, innovation and tourism, i.e. disseminators for the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, to exchange their views and to network in a relaxed atmosphere.
