Frankfurt am Main: Top Business Travel Destination for Conferences and Congresses
Situated in the middle of the metropolitan region of Frankfurt Rhine-Main, the city of Frankfurt ranks amongst the leading congress destinations of both Germany and Europe. The bustling metropolis is wonderfully diverse, colourfully cosmopolitan and highly dynamic. Here in the heart of Europe, tradition meets modernity, clinker-brick meets skyscraper façade, apple wine meets Riesling, Green Sauce meets Frankfurt Crown Cake and botanical gardens meet the urban jungle.
Frankfurt has been an international center of trade and commerce for more than 800 years. Today, it exudes an inspirational atmosphere for innovative thought and creative ideas.
The city is not only one of the world’s leading financial centers, Frankfurt also ranks amongst Germany’s leading locations for medical, pharmaceutical and industrial biotechnology as well as pharmaceutical research and development. As the home of Europe’s second-largest data-processing center, Frankfurt plays an important role in the fields of telecommunications and IT and is also home to numerous international advertising agencies and communications companies, while the number of game developers and publishers based in Frankfurt is unparalleled in all of Germany. Last but not least, Frankfurt is known as the center of the German logistics and mobility industries and planners are sure to benefit from the synergies of the business-relevant industries established here.
With its ease of accessibility, attractive event venues, countless accommodation establishments and industry-relevant business networks, Frankfurt provides the ideal preconditions for congresses and conferences of every size and variety.
Frankfurt is also one of the best-connected business events locations in all of Europe. With Germany’s largest airport right in front of its doorstep, a well-developed public transport system, one of the country’s busiest train station and easy access to the national Autobahn network, the metropolis on the River Main is easy to reach from literally all across the globe. Daily non-stop connections directly link Frankfurt with many destinations in the USA.
Once here, it’s no more than a 15-minute commuter train ride from Frankfurt Airport to the main train station and the city center. Those who want to combine several German cities on one business trip and prefer a more climate-friendly mode of transport to airline travel have the option of travelling by high-speed train via either the DB Long-Distance Train Station at Frankfurt Airport or directly to Frankfurt Main Train Station in the city center.
Frankfurt is not known as Europe’s smallest metropolis for nothing. The compact city center is home to more than 250 hotels, most of which are only a short walk from Frankfurt’s premier event locations, sightseeing attractions and other recreational offerings. More than 12,000 hotel rooms are situated in immediate proximity to Messe Frankfurt (the Frankfurt Fair & Exhibition Centre) alone.
These include the NH Collection Frankfurt Spin Tower, with 414 guest rooms and 11 conference rooms, which opened in 2023, as well as Germany's tallest hotel, the Frankfurt Marriott Hotel. In spring 2025, the first Kimpton Hotel in Germany will open in Frankfurt. With 155 stylishly furnished guest rooms, a wide range of services and various restaurants and bars, the hotel is currently being built in Frankfurt's newest skyline addition - the FOUR FRANKFURT high-rise in the center of the city's financial district.
The vast fairgrounds of Messe Frankfurt are home to 11 exhibition halls and four multipurpose event locations. They are centrally situated and quick and easy to reach either on foot or via public transport. For congresses from 600 up to more than 10,000 participants, Messe Frankfurt offers event planners the highly sustainable “Kap Europa” congress center as well as spatial combinations comprising the historical “Festhalle”, the futuristic “Forum” and the multipurpose “Congress Center”. The latter of these three is directly connected to the brand-new and pillar free Exhibition Hall 5, opened in 2023 and featuring plenty of space for accompanying exhibitions and events.
There are many other congress venues in Frankfurt and the surrounding Rhine-Main region offering ideal conditions for medium- and large-scale congresses. Campus Westend, part of Frankfurt’s Goethe University, is able to comfortably accommodate events from 10 to 3,300 attendees, for example. Alte Oper Frankfurt, the city’s time-honoured opera house, has ample space for 70 to 3,000 people.
Frankfurt also disposes over a broad range of event locations well suited for social events. The recently opened Upper East Site offers space for 500 people and impresses with its beautiful rooftop terrace and a great view of the Frankfurt skyline and green surroundings. The Gesellschaftshaus Palmengarten in the city's Botanical Gardens is ideal for gala dinners for up to 800 people.
The Frankfurt Convention Bureau (FCB) is happy to support event planners in their search and in the organisation of site inspections. You are certain to profit not only from the locational expertise of the FCB’s team of professionals, but also from its vast network of accommodation establishments, event venues, service providers and representatives from the fields of business and science. Providing tickets for sustainable travel with the local public transport system is as much a part of the Frankfurt Convention Bureau as the support in finding suitable accommodation.
Finally, those in need of sustenance after a productive day of talks and meetings will find a colourful variety of restaurants throughout the city, representing cuisine from all around the world. One thing is certain, there’s something for every taste and every pocketbook. A visit of one of Frankfurt’s famous apple wine pubs should most definitely be at the top of every visitor’s culinary to-do list. A refreshing glass of apple wine is equally pleasant when enjoyed on one of the city’s many rooftop bars, replete with spectacular views of the Frankfurt skyline.
