18 Years of darmstadtium

The science and congress center in Darmstadt, the darmstadtium, is one of the beacons of the German event landscape. As one of the most sustainable congress centers— the first with EMASplus certification in Europe, and as the “fastest congress center in Germany,” the darmstadtium has been setting standards for years. To be precise, since its opening in December 2007 – the beginning of a real success story.

“The future has been meeting here for 18 years.”

In 18 years, over 4,800 events with almost 2.5 million guests have been successfully held at the darmstadtium. The above-average satisfaction of visitors, planners, and end customers of the darmstadtium shows that the overall package is just right.

The darmstadtium is the first choice, especially for larger EMEA conferences, which are part of the darmstadtium's core business. The darmstadtium impresses with its flexible room offerings and outstanding service, but above all with its location in the heart of the Rhine-Main/Rhine-Neckar region and its direct connection to Frankfurt Airport and the long-distance train station.

18 Years of Connectivity

Customers and guests appreciate the darmstadtium's first-class IT infrastructure. Through continuous technical investments and upgrades, the darmstadtium has been particularly successful in remaining state-of-the-art in this constantly changing sector.

The fact that the darmstadtium's IT infrastructure has won the prestigious INCON Digital Infrastructure Award multiple times really highlights this. Best cases, such as the PyCon & PyData user conference with 1,500 participants on site and up to 1,800 devices accessing the Wi-Fi every day, underscore the darmstadtium's claim and suitability as the IT hotspot of choice.

18 Years of Sustainability

Sustainability is undoubtedly a topic of the future, not only in the events sector, but at darmstadtium it is conceived and implemented holistically.

Key decisions were made during the construction and planning phase in close cooperation between the building contractors and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Darmstadt Technical University. These decisions led to the world's first DGNB certification for a convention center in 2012 and ensure a dynamic interplay of architectural and technical measures, particularly in the darmstadtium's energy concept.

In 2021, the darmstadtium will be the first congress center in Europe to receive EMAsplus certification, one of the most demanding and comprehensive sustainability management systems in the world. Thus, sustainability at the darmstadtium is neither viewed in a one-dimensional nor conclusive manner. Continuous improvement and optimization in all pillars of sustainability – ecology, economy, and social responsibility – is both an aspiration and a mission.

Your partner for 18 years

Today, the darmstadtium, together with Centralstation and five other venues in the science city of Darmstadt, forms a strong network of locations hosting over 1,100 events per year.

In addition to the close cooperation between the teams, customers and guests benefit above all from the fiber optic network, which enables data transmission, streaming, and a uniform Wi-Fi network.

The darmstadtium's partner locations are therefore the ideal complement for events and conferences in the science and congress center, both for evening events and side events.

18 Years Young

With its timeless, futuristic architecture, the darmstadtium impresses at first glance as a building in its own right. The bold design by architects Talik Chalabi and Paul Schröder to create a building that always looks new has undoubtedly been achieved.

But a look behind the unique façade also confirms this future orientation. The social structure further underscores this. The special collaboration between the science city of Darmstadt and the Technical University of Darmstadt was unique in Germany at the turn of the millennium. The people involved at the time, University President Prof. Dr. Johann Wörner and Mayor Peter Benz, were the brains behind this bold decision.

18 years – this is where the future meets!

We warmly congratulate darmstadtium on this special anniversary and look forward to seeing what the future holds for our member. One thing is certain – it will meet.
