Berlin Moves Into 1st Place in International ICCA City Rankings

Germany Remains Leader as #1 Country in Europe & #2 Globally for Meetings

Berlin has risen to the head of the class in the annual International Congress & Convention Association’s (ICCA) meeting city rankings this year, hosting 195 meetings for associations in 2015. This first place slot represents a three position rise from 4th place last year.

Also in 2015, Munich and Hamburg joined Berlin in the top 100 worldwide rankings, and these cities plus Dresden, Dusseldorf, Cologne, Leipzig and Frankfurt figured into the top 100 European city rankings as well, giving Germany 8 cities in total in that additional listing.

Further, building on its strong track record of excellence in the ICCA country rankings, Germany remained number one in Europe and second worldwide (only behind the U.S.) for the 12th consecutive year, with 667 association meetings hosted in 2015.

Again this year, Germany will welcome many association meetings, ranging from gatherings like the 10th International AAAI Conference on Weblogs and Social Media ICWSM-16 in Cologne this week and the IATA 138th Slot Conference Association next month in Hamburg -- to the 20th International Conference on Prenatal Diagnosis and Therapy -ISPD- in Berlin later in the summer and the 28th AACR-NCI-EORTC Symposium on Molecular Targets and Cancer Therapeutics in Cologne towards the end of the year.

Commenting on Germany’s leadership in the global meetings market Matthias Schultze, Managing Director of the German Convention Bureau, commented: “Germany’s cities are renowned for leveraging their local areas of industry expertise, history, and top-notch venues to attract and create strategic meetings, conferences and events. It is great to see so many of these cities recognized in the latest rankings, with Berlin leading the way.” He added, “We’re also very pleased that Germany has remained at the top of ICCA’s country ranking for well over a decade now. Germany’s meetings industry works hard as an integrated destination, service, venue, hotel, convention center and economic development community to deliver one-of-a-kind, successful meeting experiences.”
