The work of the Hamburg Convention Bureau

As a direct subsidiary of Hamburg Marketing GmbH, the HCB combines locational expertise with a broad spectrum of industry-specific knowledge, ranging from B2B meetings, conferences and conventions to large-scale public events.

HCB is in charge of marketing Hamburg globally as a congress and conventions location and strengthening Hamburg’s profile internationally via highly visible public events. In addition to raising Hamburg’s profile through events and increasing the immediate value added by the event industry, HCB also aims to actively promote the development of Hamburg’s economic clusters through B2B events.

The Conventions unit of the HCB focusses on systematic, efficient activities in its source markets, with an acquisition strategy that is based on specific target groups. In addition, the HCB is increasingly concentrating on actively acquiring congresses of more than 200 participants with a focus on industries relevant to Hamburg’s economic clusters. Examples of HCB’s successful acquisitions over the past six months include the IATA Slot Conference in 2016 as well as the IATA World Passenger Symposium 2015 with a total of more than 1,200 industry experts. Further examples include the DevGAMM 2015 – Eastern Europe’s biggest games conference with 1,500 trade visitors – and the Rotary International Convention 2019 with around 22,000 participants.

Our Eventmarketing unit specialises in orchestrated public events with strong imagery and excellent media exposure. We are dedicated to promote Hamburg internationally through unique, spectacular events.

The focus lies on image-enhancing events that strengthen Hamburg as a brand and reflect Hamburg’s unique brand value. The Hamburg Cruise Days festival may serve as an excellent example for our successful marketing approach. While we tend to operate behind the scenes, it is always our goal to reach the widest possible public. We stage our events not only in Hamburg, but we also develop creative, unique live communication events that are regularly presented in major international cities.

As a central point of contact for all organisations and public institutions involved in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region’s event industry, we provide advice when it comes to planning large-scale events in the public sphere. Frequently asked questions here include: Where exactly are these open-air venues, and who are the persons to contact when seeking official approval? Our event specialists can give advice and refer you to the relevant contact persons
