300+ GCB Trained Sustainability Consultants Are Growing Even Greener Meetings in Germany
With a strong infrastructure already in place for green venues, energy, catering and transportation across Germany, the German Convention Bureau has been upping the green meetings ante even further by offering education seminars and certifications on sustainable meeting practices.
Launched in 2012, the program has certified over 320 Sustainability Consultants to date and over 40 are expected to participate in new sessions held in Darmstadt in October 2015. The program will include a “Sustainability Advisor 2.0” seminar, as well as the popular entry-level session “Sustainability Consultant in the Meetings Industry.”
In addition to the fellow meetings industry professionals who make up the bulk of participants in the program, clients and potential clients of the GCB from German companies and organizations are also attending so they can get smarter about making their event planning increasingly green-conscious.
Further proof of interest in empowering green meetings in Germany is an increase in demand for the GCB to provide in-house seminars to some of the meeting industry members and service providers participating. MARITIM Hotels, the Hamburg Convention Bureau, mainzplus Citymarketing, and the conference center darmstadtium have all incorporated the GCB certification process into their own internal sustainability strategy and education for employees.
In sum, building green awareness, facilitating knowledge sharing and providing practical tools is what the GCB Sustainability Certification program is all about, in turn building more sustainable meetings in Germany one meeting, conference or event at a time.
