Fun and games at meetings in Germany

Sporty German meeting and convention industry buoyed by the success of the 2006 FIFA World Cup - GCB members with lots of offerings for social programmes and incentives

Frankfurt on Main, 11th December 2006. The GCB German Convention Bureau e.V. has taken the successful 2006 FIFA World Cup as an opportunity to focus on further sports events in Germany in 2007. More top-notch world championships take centre stage in Germany over the next few months alongside sports incentives and social programmes of the GCB members - hotels, convention centres and cities, and further service providers from the German meeting and convention industry. For detailed information read the GCB’s latest edition of the magazine meetings made in germany, which can be ordered free of charge on info@gcb.de. The GCB’s website www.germany-meetings.com also features all programmes and information at a glance.

Sports highlights in Germany and offers of GCB members
The following sports highlights will help the tourism, meeting and convention industry continue the success story of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany: the Latin Formation Dance World Championships in Bremen this December, the Men’s Handball World Championships in January and February 2007, and the Gymnastics World Championships in Stuttgart next September.

But not only top athletes can exercise and go to their limits. Destinations, event venues and hotels organised in GCB German Convention Bureau e.V. are now offering sports programmes for meetings or incentives to boost your team spirit and motivation. For example, you can opt for incentives and group programmes in and around the water in Land Fleesensee in the beautiful Mecklenburg Lake District. Teamwork is key for building a raft (http://www.fleesensee.de). And to boost your stamina try the Running Concierge of The Westin Leipzig, who goes jogging with guests three mornings a week to get them in shape for a long day of seminars (http://www.westin.com/leipzig). Team event participants at Seminaris SeeHotel Potsdam are also in for some adrenaline shocks and thrills. The hotel’s own outdoor course has exercises on the “flying bridge”, the “balance seesaw”, and climbing wall (http://www.seminaris.de). Speed is key for meeting-goers in Frankfurt: The Indoor kart 2000 centre has meeting capacities for up to 60 people and you can end your working day with some fast-paced fun (http://www.frankfurt-tourismus.de). And if you haven’t had enough after the World Cup, you can swap your suit and tie for a football shirt and play SoccaFive at Munich’s Olympiapark on a 30 x 15 metre pitch (http://www.olympiapark-soccafive.de).

The GCB markets Germany as a destination for conventions, meetings, events and incentives both on a national and international level, and is the place to contact for anybody planning an event in Germany. Its approx. 200 members include leading hotels, convention centres and destinations, car hire firms, event agencies and service providers of the German meetings and convention industry. Preferred partners of the GCB include m:con Mannheim, Maritim Hotels and the SevenCenters of Germany.

The GCB is an interface between organisers of meetings and conventions and suppliers of the German meetings market, offers advice and support for planning and organising events, and provides contacts and addresses. Its website http://www.germany-meetings.com features an online search facility for meeting venues, newsletter, Germany guide and a lot more.
