After the 2006 FIFA World Cup™:
Vision is key – but scoring chances are excellent!
After an exciting match against Portugal – the “Baby Finals” of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ - the score was 3:1 for Germany. A result that led to heavy partying nationwide and that gave us sports fans reason to hope for the 2010 World Cup. But not only soccer fans have good reason to be optimistic – the major event was a great success for all of Germany.World Cup: country of optimists
Sportswise Germany did rather well with its third place. But one of the really big winners of 2006 FIFA World Cup™ was the German tourist industry. Three days after the finals, Petra Hedorfer, CEO of the German National Tourist Board (DZT), expected an incoming growth of ten per cent of overnights for Germany as a travel destination in all of 2006. This would be the first time we exceed the mark of over 52 million international overnights. “Our intensive marketing activities for Germany as a destination before and after the World Cup paid amazing benefits,” says a happy Hedorfer about the excellent result. 90 per cent of international guests would recommend Germany as a destination, as a survey among World Cup visitors showed. For the next few years DZT boss Hedorfer expects an annual growth of three per cent for international guests. Little surprise then that Ernst Hinsken, tourism officer of the German government, is convinced that this World Cup was “the best publicity for our country in many years”.
