Bavarian State Opera Tour

The Bavarian State Opera is one of the top five leading opera houses in the world, looking back at a rich cultural history of over 350 years.
About 600,000 guests attend over 300 events annually; a fact that makes the Bavarian State Opera a major contributor to Munich’s reputation as an international cultural hub.
During one season, 30 operas from over five centuries as well as ballet, concerts and song recitals are performed. So, the Bavarian State Opera has one of the most varied programs worldwide compared to other international opera houses.
A guided tour of the Munich Opera imparts knowledge regarding the immense logistical complexity of each performance as well as interesting information about the staff on stage and behind the scenes. The construction of scenery, the tailoring of costumes and scenic rehearsals are just some aspects, when it comes to staging a production. For every performance many different fields of work are involved to guarantee a smooth process.
More than 350 years of opera and ballet in Munich provide for the historical background. During the guided tour you receive interesting information about the building’s architecture and the public figures that have shaped this institution. To mention are King Max I, who laid the foundation stone and King Ludwig II, who left his mark due to his patronage for Richard Wagner. In addition, the two house gods – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Richard Strauss – are part of the tour.
A tour of the National Theatre includes a visit to the Royal Hall and the adjacent Ionic Halls as well as the auditorium. Viewing of the prompter’s box and the impressive area below the stage are subject to availability.
