Meetings and Celebrations in Museums
From private guided art tours to spectacular events
Besides their inherent cultural value, German museums are very high in demand among clients and planners for use as special or unusual events locations – especially when the client is seeking something particularly exceptional. There is no doubt that Germany stands out well to the fore internationally when it comes to providing a professional and comprehensive range of meetings and events possibilities in museums. Numerous new structures and modernisation over the past years have contributed to creating exemplary meetings and events facilities with cultural surroundings with a very unusual atmosphere. The cultural image factor which is transposed from venues to events organisers is by no means to be underestimated. A museum offers not only a functional surround but also an emotional plateau via the artistic exhibits and artefacts at hand. These confer a qualitative radiance and a very special quality to any events held there.Museum Locations – fashion shows and gala dinners
Leading art museums and galleries in Germany have been very quick in recognizing these trends and developments and have established a highly pro-active marketing association called ‘museums locations’.The following museums are members of this museums co-operation:
- The Bucerius Kunst Forum Hamburg
- the Pinakotheken in the Kunstareal (Art Areal) Munich
- the open-air museum in Kiekeberg
- K20K21 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen
- the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland
- the Langen Foundation Neuss
- the Museum Ludwig in Cologne
- the Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin (State Berlin Museums)
- and Staatsgalerie (State Gallery) Stuttgart
Besides the classic meeting, reception or ‘Art Night’ - impressive events are also organised and held in these museums.
All of the ‘museums locations’ possess their own separate events department which provide professional advice and support to clients in the planning and realisation of their events.

There is more than one thinks
Apart from the ‘museums locations’ association, German museums are fascinating places featuring a whole variety of different activities. An exclusive gala dinner with evening tour of the art collections may be held in the famous Green Vault in Dresden or in the Saxony State Art Collections in Dresden’s historic ‘Zwinger’.
Visitors can enjoy a unique view over Hamburg and the new ‘Port City’ (Hafencity) during a reception on Deck10 of the Hamburg Maritime Museum. A special lighting concept ensures that the setting for events is modern, festive, relaxed and convivial.
Friends of literature will be in their element in the Baltic port city of Lübeck: a reception with reading from the work of Thomas Mann in the Belle Etage of the Buddenbrook House is a very special experience indeed – especially now that the famous Buddenbrook family saga has been newly re-filmed. The exclusive tour of the house that follows carries visitors back to the times and history of the Buddenbrook merchant family. One of Lübeck’s most beautiful event locations is the newly reconstructed Museum of Fine Arts. Events for up to 1,000 persons are possible here. The museum’s attraction lies in the connection between contemporary architecture and art dating from the late Middles Ages to present times. This is what creates such a unique atmosphere. Private tours of the museum’s collections are, as a rule, part and parcel of events organised there. These tours, in particular, help very much in creating memorable and special moments.
One of the most beautiful galleries for contemporary art is a genuinely secret tip - the Kunsthalle Dominikanerkirche (art gallery in the Dominican Church) in Osnabrück. The modern sacral setting is not only available for small meetings and lectures but also for special receptions.
The Chocolate Museum in Cologne has developed into a high-quality party location. It offers many possibilities to event planners. The Chocolate Museum’s flexibility and openness together with its superb setting on a Rhine river island - with spectacular views of Cologne Cathedral - presents the very best pre-conditions.
