Ecology or mobility? Not in Germany!

Green Meetings in Germany: Lufthansa Aircrafts
Today, one thing is certain: The globalised world moves by car, plane and train – despite the climate change. The prime strategic goal of German companies is not to stop the march of time but to keep it spinning in a greener direction. Be it on the road, rail or in the air: Germany’s mobility industries are sustainably backing environmental protection.

Airlines
For one and a half decades Lufthansa has been investing in creating a fuel-efficient fleet of aircraft and improving operative processes to enhance ecological efficiency:

In the past 15 years Germany’s biggest airline has therefore been able to lower fuel consumption per passenger and 100 kilometres by just under 30 per cent to now 4.4 litres. Or to put it more drastically: In 2006 alone the use of larger, quieter, aircraft that consume less fuel and generate lower emissions, as well as optimised flight routes and speeds have saved the environment just under 200,000 tonnes of CO2. With its investment in the new three-litre Airbus A 380 and Boeing 747-8 aircraft the airline wants to reduce emissions as of 2009 by a further eight per cent until 2012.

Deutsche Bahn
However, Deutsche Bahn benefits most form the new low-emission mobility trend. Rail travel is by far the most climate-friendly mode of transport and mobility.
Between 1990 and 2002 Deutsche Bahn already lowered its carbon output by 25 per cent – two years before the date it had set itself. And the group has now made a binding commitment to reduce this figure by another 20 per cent until 2020 thanks to a whole package of measures. They include: modern technology, energy-saving driving, an energy mix with a large share of renewable energies and better capacity utilisation of its trains. It’s not unlikely that Deutsche Bahn will meet these goals much faster, since it was already able to lower carbon emissions by another 11.4 per cent between 2002 and 2006 .

Event ticket of Deutsche Bahn
The Deutsche Bahn event ticket is ideal for everybody who is organising a meeting, convention or event and expects mobility across all modes of transport for attendees.

Congress ticket for public transport
Many German cities offer congress and meeting organisers and their customers a low-priced public transport ticket.
With the congress ticket delegates have unlimited use of the entire local transport network in the city. The congress ticket is much cheaper than a comparable day ticket which attendees would otherwise have to buy for themselves.

For information contact the local convention bureau or tourist office or ask in your hotel or event venue.

Car industry
The car industry is also moving with the times. Together with the German Nature Conservation Federation NABU, for example, the Volkswagen group offers free fuel-saving training. Research & development on new technologies to reduce greenhouse emissions are part of the everyday work of the engineers of Golf, Polo, Beetle & Co. Just think of the three-litre car.
And their efforts have been rewarded: In autumn 2006 the US J.D. Power Environment study showed that VW is the “most environment-friendly car maker” in the USA.

Rental cars

Hertz
if you are looking for a particularly environment-friendly rental car, you can now find it in the Hertz Green Collection. The fleet of the German Hertz Green Collection already meets the low CO2 output quota of 140 grams per driven kilometre on average. And thanks to consumption-efficient engines Hertz customers are not only friendly to the environment but also to their budgets.

Another advantage of the new "eco"-fleet is that the rental cars can be booked without any extra costs. You will find the low-emission and fuel-efficient vehicles at the airport stations in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Hahn and Berlin-Tegel.

Sixt
Sixt also offers particularly environment-friendly cars. Sixt now rents out 1,000 VW Touran EcoFuel that run on natural gas. They are available at 28 stations nationwide.
And Sixt is doing even more for fuel efficiency: In 2009 the Sixt fleet will include 20,000 vehicles of the brands BMW (EfficientDynamics), Mercedes (BlueEfficiency) and Smart (mdh) with particularly low-consumption engines. In addition, BlueMotion models by Volkswagen and Econetic as well as FlexiFuel cars by Ford will be added to the rental car provider’s fleet.
