Bremen – maritime history, innovation and a big-city buzz
Bremen is the beating heart of north-west Germany and a city that has it all: where aspects of Hanseatic history, tradition, cutting-edge technology, science and space come together to create a sensational backdrop for your visit.
Bremen, the cosmopolitan city on the Weser river, can look back on over 1,200 years of history. Its attractions include the ornate Weser Renaissance town hall and the statue of Roland on the historical market square (UNESCO World Heritage), the Schnoor – Bremen's oldest quarter – and the Böttcherstrasse with its enchanting, red-brick buildings. Bremen's best-known monument and its emblem is the statue of the Town Musicians with the donkey, dog, cat and rooster from the Brothers Grimm fairytale.
The River Weser, which runs through the centre of Bremen, is the trading route that originally made the city a proud Hanseatic centre. When the sun shines, the outdoor areas of the many restaurants and cafés along the Schlachte Embankment come alive with laughter and excited voices. Some of Bremen's more unusual conference venues are found in the fast-growing Überseestadt district. This vibrant new community for the 21st century has transformed what was once the city docks. Now, cuboid buildings with glass exteriors and modern illuminations stand side by side with the old brick warehouses.
Bremen stands out as a location for trade fairs, conferences, conventions and seminars because of its first-class facilities, outstanding infrastructure and individual service.
Bremen – easy to get to, easy to get around
Bremen's international airport has scheduled flight connections to major hubs and regional airports in Germany and the rest of Europe. It takes just 15 minutes to get from the airport to Bremen Exhibition and Conference Centre, right in the heart of the city. Bremen is also easy to get to by train: the city centre station is served by InterCityExpress, InterCity and EuroCity trains from all major German cities. It's then only ten minutes' walk to the historical market square or three minutes' walk to the exhibition and conference centre.
