Topping-out Ceremony for new Maritim Hotel Dresden
Dr. Monika Gommolla, Chairlady of Maritim Hotelgesellschaft mbH, Mr. Ingolf Rossberg, Lord Mayor of the City of Dresden and Dr. Karl-Joseph Hermanns-Engel, CEO of AXA Investment Managers were on site in Dresden on Wednesday 14 September 2005 to celebrate the topping-out of the new Maritim Hotel Dresden built in the historical Erlweinspeicher warehouse directly on the banks of the River Elbe and close to the famous baroque old town. With this innovative project Maritim will lead the way in the Dresden and Saxony conference and hotel market.
The extensive reconstruction works on the 90-year-old listed Erlweinspeicher building started some ten months ago, in November 2004. HOCHTIEF Construction AG was entrusted with the building work. The first steps were to stabilize the historical building and to install modern flood protection measures. Following this work, construction of the interior walls and installations was started ahead of schedule and is now in full swing. The stunning atrium is to be completed by mid-October, when the indoor work can start in this part of the building. The hotel opening is planned for the spring of 2006, and scheduled to coincide with the city’s 800th anniversary celebrations.
The Maritim Hotel Dresden will comprise 328 rooms including 40 suites of various categories plus a hotel restaurant with a spacious outside terrace affording spectacular views over the River Elbe. The hotel will have a piano bar, a wellness area with swimming pool, sauna and fitness area, and an underground car park for 118 vehicles. A further 263 parking spaces are available in the adjoining International Congress Center Dresden. The heart of the building will be the atrium hall, which at a stunning 38 m high will flood the interior with light, giving the hotel an open spacious atmosphere.
The Maritim Hotel Dresden, the 45th hotel in the German Maritim Hotel Company will be directly linked to the International Congress Center Dresden (ICD) which has been successfully operated by Maritim since May 2004. The ICD offers a total of 21 halls – a number of them joinable - with a floor area between 30 and 1,165 sqm. On four levels, the building offers space for up to 6,000 people. The largest hall, combined with five further halls, can seat up to 4,200 in theatre style and accommodate up to 5,000 guests for receptions. In future, upon completion of the project Maritim will provide its guests with not only a modern congress centre in Dresden but also a high-class Maritim Hotel directly linked to it.
