GCB Site Inspection: Site inspection to Hamburg and Luebeck – some ideas for your next meeting or incentive

Summary report of a recent MICE site inspection trip to Hamburg and Luebeck with nine Italian event planners from Milan, Rome, Genoa and Florence:

Luebeck and Hamburg have an awful lot to offer conference, congress, incentive, event and accompanying programmes was the overall verdict.

How about a professional tea-tasting with a tea importer? No better place than in the Speicherstadt Hamburg where tea among many other imported goods is stored. Many former warehouses are also available as unusual venues and locations for corporate presentations, dinners and events.

Or you can visit the sail training ship Rickmer Rickmers, admire its maritime museum and dine in true seafarer fashion.

The former legal faculty ballroom of the Curiohaus.now offers space for events with up to 500 persons.

A highlight of the trip was a journey to the Treppenviertel via sailing ship on the River Elbe, and from there on to the Süllberg. This beautifully restored hotel and restaurant, managed by star chef Karlheinz Hauser, also features a beautifully appointed ballroom and several other meeting rooms. A view from the terrace also makes an ascent by foot well worth considering.

The Jenischen Haus in the Jenischen Park is a very suitable venue for special lunches and gala dinners. The Hotel Louis C. Jacob is responsible for top quality catering and first-class service.

The Congress Center Hamburg is the venue in Hamburg for large congresses. Connected to the Radisson SAS Hotel it forms a symbiosis of meeting rooms and overnight accommodation. Should there not be enough rooms available here then the Elysée, Marriott and SIDE Hotels are only a stone’s throw away. The Elysée is currently building a new conference centre. When complete, it will be the largest hotel conference centre in Hamburg.

Hamburg’s hotel landscape has something for all tastes: traditional meeting and living in the venerable Raffles Four Seasons,  in the Kempinski Hotel Atlantic – with some Hamburg’s most beautiful meeting rooms located in the hotel’s inner courtyard -  or in the Hotel Louis C. Jacob on the banks of the River Elbe. If you are a lover of modern design then you will certainly be in your element in either the Dorint Sofitel am Alten Wall or in the SIDE Hotel.

And what do you associate with Luebeck? Hanseatic city, marzipan? Exactly. This beautiful UNESCO World Cultural Heritage City also offers wonderful locations and settings for meetings, incentives and events.

Let’s begin with the Luebecker Musik- und Kongresshalle (MUK). The largest room has a capacity for up to 2,000 persons and excellent acoustics. With a daylight lobby area and plenty of break-out rooms this is an ideal location for a congress.

The Moevenpick and Radisson SAS hotels are located right next door to the MUK. The Moevenpick itself has also a number of meeting rooms. The renowned Moevenpick catering is also available for events located outside the Moevenpick Hotel premises.

Nor should one miss out on a tour of the historic old city area, a boat tour around the city or as crowning highlight – a slice of Marzipan cake in the famous Café Niederegger.

And should you wish to dine like a Hanseatic Sea Captain, then the Schiffergesellschaft zu Luebeck is definitely a must. It has space for up to 180 persons and groups are most welcome.
