Intercongress brings innovative congress organisation to Berlin
Quantum leap into a golden future
Intercongress, one of Germany’s leading professional organisers of medical and scientific congresses, is opening a new office in Berlin – a move which will bring new vitality to the events scene. “Berlin is the gateway to the world,” says Managing Director Diana Kraus, explaining the strategy behind the expansion, “and opens up entirely new perspectives for us as trendsetters in congress organisation.” The move is a clear sign of the company’s increasingly international orientation and brings Intercongress closer to organisers in the north of Germany, in particular those in Berlin. The new office got off to a flying start with a spectacular opening event organised by Events Manager Martin Berndt and his highly committed team, which took place at the Langenbeck Virchow House and was attended by 100 guests. Intercongress provided a clear illustration of how proven competence in professional event organisation can be combined with innovative ideas to make every event a memorable experience.
The successful PCO has made a name for itself on many levels. Intercongress has been on the market since 1992 as a full-service agency with a network of state-of-the-art branches in Freiburg, Düsseldorf, Wiesbaden and now Berlin. Highly motivated event professionals ensure that all customer requirements before, during and after the event are met, working with tried and tested service partners across various sectors, including technicians, interpreters, artist agencies, graphic designers and caterers.
“The leading event location for German and European activities is the ideal place for us to realise our ambitions – Berlin, as always, is one step ahead of the rest.” says Managing Director Diana Kraus.
Here’s to a golden future!

The centralized Cologne Convention Bureau, with Stephanie Franke in charge, launches operations
The new Cologne Convention Bureau officially commences business operations on August 1, 2008. The centralized Cologne Convention Bureau functions as a separate, independently-run department under the corporate umbrella of Cologne Tourist Board. The content overlap between convention and tourist marketing makes the organizational linkage of these two elements a natural fit. Stephanie Franke, already at the helm since mid-July, has been coordinating all measures that promote Cologne as a desirable convention destination. Economist by profession, Ms. Franke was previously engaged as Project Manager for Koelnmesse. She will be assisted in her new endeavours by two employees at Cologne Tourist Board, Ms. Filiz Ük and Mr. Christian Woronka, starting in August. The new institution has various interdependent objectives: The basic goal is to develop a joint marketing strategy for the Cologne convention business. The Bureau will selectively approach potential convention organizers in order to draw new events to Cologne. Another objective includes the collection of market research data, which will be used for identifying convention and conference trends in Cologne, for comparison to other cities, and for deriving action items based on this information.
Dr. Norbert Walter-Borjans, Director of the Department for Economic Development and Real Property, is fully confident in the long-term success of the Convention Bureau: "Cologne is a unique and attractive place. That's how most companies, visitors and last but not least our own citizens see it. The Cologne Convention Bureau that we created will ensure that convention organizers likewise get to know and to value Cologne's unique character. Cologne has established individual customer service in yet another significant business area through this highly efficient event organization service", explains Walter-Borjans. Just like the slogan: "Everything from a single source."
Cologne is en vogue as a national and international convention city. One contributing factor is its outstanding infrastructure and an extensive and unusually diverse selection of event sites. In addition, its cultural heritage, outstanding recreational opportunities, and the open-minded, welcoming mindset of its inhabitants imbue Cologne with a powerful magnetism.
The Convention Bureau’s initial appearances at international fairs are already set: Cologne will be promoted as a convention destination at IT & ME (the Incentive Travel & Meeting Executives Show) in Chicago from 23 to 25 September 2008, and at EIBTM (European Incentive & Business Travel & Meeting Exhibition) in Barcelona from 2 to 4 December 2008.
