Meeting Newsletter for Germany

Dear Readers,

A small step indeed for one man but a big step for events destination Germany: Mr. Horst Schulze returned the country and the city of Düsseldorf a ‘new’ old top address when he cut the ceremonial tape on 19th May 2008 at the Breidenbacher Hof: ‘The legend lives!’ announced the local press after the re-opening of this grand hotel which had been closed for some eight years. It plans to establish itself once again as Germany’s number one address for meetings and events.

While the citizens of Düsseldorf were celebrating Germany’s latest luxury offering, others were contemplating the not unimportant issue of climate and environment protection: the GCB German Convention Bureau, at its Annual General Meeting at m:con Congress Center Rosengarten in Mannheim, fully compensated for the CO² produced by the 120 participants for transport, hotel accommodation, food & beverages. The GCB itself intends to provide a good example to the meetings and congress branch by adapting a responsible approach to climate protection. ‘If everybody takes a small step’ says GCB Managing Director Lutz P. Vogt, ‘then together we can all reach a great goal.’

At the conclusion of the UN Sustainability Days in Bonn– a congress marathon lasting almost five weeks – the German Government-organised Nature Protection Conference was awarded the EMAS Certificate for environment protection.

There’s plenty still to be done, so let’s get moving!

Your, GCB-Team
