Meeting Newsletter for Germany

Dear Meeting Planner,

the meetings industry is focussing its sights increasingly on scientific and business communities, their national and international linkages and networks. This newsletter illustrates just how cities such as Dresden and Düsseldorf have benefited from close co-operation between their tourism and congress branch and their civic and scientific institutions including universities, technical colleges, research institutes and chambers of industry and commerce.

The result has, for instance, seen leading Dresden professors and scientists displaying their practical engagement by attracting major congresses to the Saxon capital. And the 'Dresden Congress Award' is a sign of the city's encouragement and grateful appreciation of their ambassadorial efforts. Three large congresses already pre-booked for 2009 in Düsseldorf are also a direct result of a fruitful co-operation between the CCD and the local scientific community.

A destination's image as a congress and meetings destination increases, needless to say, as more and more international conferences and meetings are held there. Client satisfaction with hospitable and qualified staff, hotel reservations, check-in and check-out procedures, room standards, food and beverages, services, costs and charges, state-of-the-art facilities and equipment and ongoing renovations are also important factors not only in securing but also in maintaining and growing meetings business in the medium to long term. We also feature some good examples from the German incoming and hotels sectors in this issue.

Wishing you an enjoyable read!

Your, GCB Team
